The cycling unit of the Local Police is already up and running and will be on duty along the Mijas coastline from Monday to Sunday, from 11:00 to 19:00 hours. A couple of officers will ensure safety and compliance with municipal ordinances in the stretch from El Torreon to the beach bar La Luna.
Among its advantages, this special unit provides a rapid response to any incident, based on its proximity to citizens. "This unit is a preventive measure carried out by the Local Police that has shown very good results over the past years, and that in 2023 will be made up of four police officers in total, who will be taking turns to meet the schedules. In addition, with this measure, we are responding to the demands also made by the beach businessmen", said the mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE) at the presentation of the police unit.
This device has been demanded because the agents have a dissuasive effect, for example, against pickpockets or street vendors and illegal masseurs. This security service complements the operation that is already deployed on the coast of Mijas, and which also joins the rescue, lifeguard and cleaning teams. Something that the councillor for Beaches, José Carlos Martín (Cs), has highlighted is that "it represents added quality which means that our beach has access to the awards of excellence because our wide range of services includes security". For this reason, both the mayor and the councillor thanked the Local Police for the "effort they make in having two members of staff assigned to this task and patrolling the beaches of Mijas more effectively".
This work is carried out by agents who are committed to offering the best service to both residents and visitors. This commitment is clear in the words of one of these agents, Pablo Narváez: "It's a very different job to what we usually do, it's closer to the people. We deal more effectively with the problems that occur on the beach and faster".
