A man is arrested for robbing elderly people in Mijas and other towns

  • He previously chose his victims, who allowed him to enter their homes after being mislead into trusting him
  • The arrested man had been active in five towns in the province

He is accused of committing 15 robberies in five different municipalities

The Guardia Civil has arrested a person for robbing senior citizens in various towns in the province, including Mijas. As part of the 'Plan Mayor' (Elders' Plan), which aims to prevent risks to the elderly, officers from the Main Post in Alhaurín el Grande carried out the so-called Operation 'Alhengany', which led to the arrest of the individual for allegedly committing an ongoing crime related to property and socio-economic order, as well as an offence of breach of sentence.

The investigators learned that a man was gaining access, through means of deception, to the homes of people who were particularly vulnerable due to their advanced age; in addition, some of them had serious health problems. He then stole valuables from them. After several months of investigation, the agents found that the 'modus operandi' of this individual was the same in all the crimes he had committed in Alhaurín el Grande, Alhaurín de la Torre, Coín, Mijas and Fuengirola.

The agents observed how the detainee premeditatedly chose his victims, deceiving them by pretending to be a relative, neighbour or inventing emergency health situations so that, once he had gained their trust, he could enter their homes and steal cash and jewellery, mainly, but also other small personal belongings. The value of the stolen goods would exceed 5,000 euros, according to sources from the Benemérita, who also announced that the individual was known to be in breach of a restraining order issued by the Judicial Authority.
