The Environmental Department of the Mijas Town Hall has published a series of recommendations to make the celebration of the 'Noche de San Juan' as environmentally friendly as possible. The aim of these suggestions and recommendations is to avoid behaviour which could damage the natural area of the municipality, as this celebration has an impact on the beaches of Mijas. From the Council they remind us that in the face of environmental problems we must adopt measures and initiatives that try to avoid or counteract them and this is where the citizens must also get involved.

In this regard, it should be noted that the beach ordinances prohibit bonfires on our coastline, except for those that are officially and symbolically authorised by the council. It is also forbidden to throw Chinese lanterns or luminaries into the air, as they pose a high risk of fire. These lamps, as well as being the possible source of a fire, can harm people or marine fauna when these non-biodegradable objects fall into the sea.

In addition, you can collaborate in a very simple way by collecting the waste you have generated by putting it in closed bags and depositing it in the nearest containers, thus leaving the beach as clean as possible before the special cleaning operation arrives.

To avoid having to collect, the best thing to do is to avoid generating unnecessary waste, using as little plastic as possible, and if necessary, reusable plastic. We should also avoid, of course, leaving glass or sharp or cutting debris on the sand that could be dangerous for beach users.
