Mijas surrendered to Latin music on Saturday night

  • The party started at 19:00 hours
  • The Latin Night in Mijas was a great success

The Virgen de la Peña square celebrated the traditional Latin Night on the 17th, which ended with an improvisation by musicians

Live music, a great atmosphere and lots of fun. These were the main ingredients of the 'Noche Latina' which got more than one person dancing to the rhythm of salsa and bachata on the Plaza Virgen de la Peña last Saturday 17th. Mijas Pueblo was visited by locals and tourists, many from the other side of the Atlantic, from countries such as Colombia, Cuba and Argentina.

Macarena Smiraglia is from the latter country, a lover of Latin music and the atmosphere it generates when it is played: "I am Argentinian and I wanted to come and enjoy myself for a while. I think it's a spectacular idea. I've been dancing salsa and bachata for many years and I really like the Latin atmosphere, the people, the music and the feeling of dancing to it, and the good thing here is that they play live, which is brutal; it's different".

Daniel Gómez and Andrea Potes are not latinos, but they have music in their veins. Eight or nine years of dance classes and the atmosphere made them dance on more than one occasion at the Noche Latina. "I like Latin music, dancing... I have a good time", said Gómez. "The atmosphere and dancing is what we like", said Potes, adding that the Latin atmosphere "is very healthy". "It's happy music", added Gómez.

But it is also music that can transport Latinos to their countries of origin. Idania Miranda, from Cuba, has been in Spain for 23 years. "Latin music gives us a little bit of the warmth of our homeland because it is the music we have had in our veins since we were born; every time we listen to it, it is as if we were in our homeland. Gerardo Medina and Cristina Correa, mojito in hand, also remembered Colombia, where they were born. "The music, the joy, the atmosphere, we meet people from all over South America and we like it very much", said both of them, who are not attending the Noche Latina for the first time. "We heard about the party and we came. Mijas Pueblo is spectacular; all the parties have a great atmosphere", concluded Correa.

Richardson y Son Bachata; Yailo Beltrán y Los Fuera de Serie; Clave Latina; and Andrés Pino and his orchestra were in charge of the rhythms in a night of great atmosphere that concluded with a jam session of Latin musicians.
