On Friday 9th of June, as we announced, the exhibition by Juan Miguel Cervera was inaugurated at the Folk Museum in Mijas Pueblo. The artist presents his latest work, a collection of 36 photographs in which he has made the spectator who visits the museums the protagonist, unrepeatable moments in which there is no staging but rather a carefully balanced composition.

'In the museum', as the work is called, is an exhibition on which the photographer has been working for the last 15 years after visiting numerous museums, those in Malaga and many others around the world. The artist turns these spaces into his working stage where he almost chases his visitors. "Suddenly, a character is placed in the right place, with the right light, and you are there to contemplate it, so you have no choice but to take the shot", Cervera pointed out. In this way, and with some embarrassment, the author confirms, he makes anonymous people the protagonists, whom he says "I make mine". They form one of the three elements with which the photographer toys, together with the container, the museum itself, and the content, the works of art they house, "because without the person who puts the icing on the cake and generates a contrast, the visitors, the work would be nothing", the photographer emphasised.

This native of Madrid by birth and adopted 'Mijeño' has a long career as a photographer. He co-founded the 'Colectivo Imagen' and has won numerous national and international awards in his career behind the camera. Now, after a long break, he is once again showing his work, "after such a long time since I did the last one, almost 30 years, because I moved between the 80s and 90s, which is when I developed my photographic career, although afterwards I have continued taking photos but not in this way, I dedicate this exhibition to myself personally", said the artist with a laugh.

Many friends and photography enthusiasts attended the opening of Cervera's exhibition on Friday, attracted by the artist's professional career, such as Joaquín Rueda, who said that "it is a very authentic exhibition, very real, there are no models, he has been able to seize many realities and capture them in a very special way". Another attendee, María Isabel Cobos, said: "I have seen that they are all photographs with many lines, and I especially liked one that plays with the lines, the colour, and the photo transmits good sensations".

This work, which is being shown here for the first time, will soon be on display in other museums, as confirmed by the coordinator of Culture in Mijas, Francisco Gutiérrez, who said that Cervera "has plans to move this exhibition not only outside Malaga, but also outside Andalusia and I think it will be a success because any exhibition hall will be delighted to see it because it will enrich the trajectory of the gallery; it is an immaculate work".

Immaculate and real; architectural, purist, spontaneous, unrepeatable and almost magical, by making an everyday gesture great, this Juan Miguel Cervera’s work, which can be seen at the Folk Museum in Mijas Village until the 26th of June.
