Postal voting for the national elections on the 23rd of July can now be applied for online

  • The application form must be submitted with proof of identity
  • Voters can request their vote via the Correos website (www.correos.es)

The application period is open until the 13th of July online at the Correos website, www.correos.es

Voters who decide to vote by post in the general elections on July 23rd can apply for a certificate of registration on the corresponding electoral roll until July 13th (inclusive). Obtaining this certificate is an essential requirement in order to be able to cast a postal vote and can be requested online at www.correos.es or in person at any post office in Spain.

Citizens can request their vote via the Correos website (www.correos.es), without having to go to a post office in person. In this application form, which avoids having to travel, the interested party must prove their identity by means of an electronic signature, accepting the certificates of natural persons recognised by the Ministry of Industry and the electronic DNI (DNI-e) as valid identification systems.

Postal voting applications may be made at any post office in Spain. This request must be made in person by each voter, except in the case of illness or disability - accredited by official medical certification - that prevents the voter from making the request in person. In this case, it may be presented on behalf of the voter by another person authorised by notary or consular authority.

Procedure

At the time of making the request, the interested parties must prove their identity by presenting the original ID card, passport or driving licence to the post office employee. With the aim of speeding up the procedures and avoiding waiting times, the company offers the option of making an appointment in advance to apply to vote in post offices, via the app, the Correos website or the Virtual Office. To do so, voters simply select the available office that has an appointment and, finally, choose the day and time that best suits them.

Correos will deliver the applications received to the provincial delegations of the Electoral Census Office, who will send applicants, from July 3rd onwards, the necessary documentation so that they can vote by post. Those applying for postal voting are reminded that the documentation will be sent to the address indicated on the application form, which does not necessarily have to coincide with their usual address. The deadline for submitting postal votes is July 19th, 2023.
