The traditional Cudeca Walkathon will be held on the 3rd of June

  • Two routes of 5 and 10 kilometres have been established, starting from the Benalmádena seafront promenade
  • This march has been celebrated for over a decade in Benalmádena.

The event will allow the foundation to raise funds to continue providing its service

On Friday 26th May, the Nuevo Enfoque Mijas association opened the doors of its headquarters to inaugurate an exhibition of photographs taken by its members. In total, twenty-seven images are on display with water as the main element in all its manifestations: "from a drop of water to the immensity of the sea, and everything in between", commented María José López, president of the association.

Fifteen members of the collective are taking part in the exhibition in a proposal whose only limitation has been the size of the frame (50 x 70 cm) for reasons of space. Reflections, rain crystals, sea, clouds... represented figuratively or symbolically, with purist or retouched aesthetics... this is what visitors will find. One of its authors, Berónica Rivera, specialised in 'new born' and children's photography, has portrayed her daughter in one of her photos and told us that "I went to Barranco Blanco, looked in my mind what I wanted, bought what I needed and went there with her". Another of the authors, Mari Carmen García Pacheco, presents a photograph of a cloud and a marsh, and recounted that "this photo of the marsh came out of the blue, we got out of the car and found this cloud".

The president of the association affirmed that "a photograph tells a story" and, although each author has imprinted their own particular point of view on the subject, many have coincided in narrating the heartbreaking story of the following. In front of a composition of dry landscapes, López said that "in these photographs the colleagues wanted to symbolise the scarcity of water that we are suffering right now and they have placed photographs in which there is no water left". Photographer Mari Carmen García added with regret, pointing to her photograph that "people think that turning on the tap is very easy but..., there is no water".

The exhibition can be visited at the association's headquarters from Monday to Thursday from 19:30 to 21:00.
