Preventing fires, as we all know, is everyone's responsibility, and this work, the clearing of brushwood, is essential before the arrival of summer, when temperatures become extreme. In this regard, work is being carried out by Parks and Gardens, who are currently working on the forest perimeters of La Cala. The councillor for the branch, Laura Moreno (PSOE), said on Thursday that "the security perimeter is created so that all our neighbours are safe, as we are experiencing high temperatures that can cause fires, which hopefully will not occur, but we must always be prepared: this year, only this company, Talher, is working on 200,000 square metres of urbanisations and outlying areas".
The work began in the last fortnight of April and will be completed at the beginning of June. Every day, they point out, some 4,000 square metres are cleared. Work has already been carried out in the upper area of Riviera, in Calahonda, in Entrerríos, on the road to La Cala, in Loma del Flamenco, Finca La Peseta, in La Alquería and in La Majadilla del Muerto. "Bearing in mind the high temperatures that we are already suffering during this season, this company, Parks and Gardens and Basic Income staff, are joining the clearing work to prevent fires, and we will reach the entire municipal area, which is 149 square kilometres", said the councillor, who urged residents to contact the Town Hall if they notice any area that could become a fire hazard so that the workers can take action.
