Visual artist Ernst Kraft, who has had his studio in our municipality for more than two decades, has presented a new exhibition which opens on the 24th of May. Entitled ‘Broken Landscape’, it can be visited at the Museo La Neomudéjar in Madrid.
With a careful selection of Kraft’s most emblematic works, the exhibition will be on display in the rooms of the prestigious art gallery which is located next to the famous Atocha station. Kraft, born in Holland in 1952, is a multifaceted artist who has developed a career in various disciplines. He had his studio in Mijas for more than 20 years, where he developed the most important part of his work.
In gratitude, Kraft donated a considerable part of his work to the Mijas Town Hall. In addition to an enormous amount of pictorial works, this artist has conceived numerous artistic installations and sculptural constructions which have subsequently been executed in different parts of the world.
Now, in the main hall of the La Neomudéjar Museum, Ernst Kraft will exhibit his emblematic large-format canvases, including works such as ‘Lluvia negra’ (Black rain) and ‘Horizonte quebrado’ (Broken horizon).
Ernst Kraft’s paintings are characterised by their vigorous strokes and delicate filigree lines, which merge into broad fields of ochre, earth tones and cyan blue. His semi-abstract style, influenced by German Expressionism and Spanish Informalism, explores the frontier, where abstraction and figuration end, or begin, in the adjoining room, dedicated to works on paper,
Kraft will present an exhibition of more intimate and melancholic works. The soft materials and techniques used on paper, such as charcoal, oil sticks, raw natural pigments and wax, add depth and a sense of melancholy and give the artistic pieces a distinctive quality compared to works on canvas.
This exhibition, which will be open in Madrid until the 30th of July, is an opportunity to fully appreciate the work of this artist.
