PP Mijas denies Nozal's responsibility in the 'Sobresueldos' case

  • The party stresses that it was the former mayor who eliminated the bonuses under investigation
  • Partido Popular candidate for mayor of Mijas, Ángel Nozal

Nozal recalls that the remuneration received by the municipal staff for their work in the Sports Board was "audited by the comptroller"

In relation to the news regarding the petition by the Mijas Town Hall for 12 years' disqualification for the former mayor and PP candidate, Ángel Nozal, for the Sobresueldos case, the PP has issued a statement to this media in which it states that this procedure has only been presented by the Town Hall and that it is being challenged for "possible lack of legitimacy and untimely presentation".

The PP recalls that this case dates back to 2015 and it studies, they explain, the payments that the Sports Board made, since its creation in 1986 when Antonio Maldonado was mayor, to municipal staff for services rendered to the institution "outside their working hours". These payments, according to the statement, "were audited by the municipal comptroller, who never formulated any objection to them. This situation lasted until Ángel Nozal's term of office as mayor, who negotiated the dissolution of this Board in 2014" and the elimination "of these bonuses". Likewise, the Partido Popular recalls that his predecessor in office, the socialist Antonio Sánchez, is under investigation in these proceedings.

Cajero case

As for the Cajero case, for which Nozal is summoned to testify as a defendant on the 5th of June in a court in Marbella for alleged false documentation related to a community of owners, the PP clarifies that the facts of this procedure are " unrelated to the Mijas Town Hall, specifically, it refers to the contracting by the Cabopino community of owners of a space to place an ATM machine". In the statement, the party explains that "this contract, in its initial formalisation in 2000, was signed by Ángel Nozal as representative of the community [in the scope of his private professional activity], although the facts under investigation refer to the disagreement of some community members with certain annexes signed in 2017 and 2020, documents which Ángel Nozal did not sign, although, by mistake, his name was left as representative of the community". Finally, the Partido Popular stresses that Nozal "did not carry out any administrative activity related to the community of owners. The contract is signed by the president of the community and there is an annex attached by the parties modifying the erratum".
