Avatés presents a cheque for 2,000 euros to the Cancer Patient Support Foundation

  • This organisation has offices in Malaga, Granada and Madrid
  • UAPO received the cheque for 2,000 from AVATES on Friday

Currently UAPO attends to 120 people in the province and has a waiting list of 130

On Friday morning the UAPO Foundation (Unidad de Ayuda al Paciente Oncológico) received a cheque for 2,000 euros from the Avatés association. The number of cancer patients is growing all the time and organisations of this type need all the support they can get. "With this money, we are going to hire a new physiotherapist that we need, we are treating 400 patients in Granada and we have a waiting list of 278", said Javier Cánovas, director of the foundation.

The UAPO is an interdisciplinary unit that integrates physical education, physiotherapy, psychology and nutrition. It is based in Granada, Madrid and Malaga and wants to continue to expand, so every contribution is important. "In 2022, 280,000 new cases of cancer were diagnosed", said Cánovas. Chilling figures which UAPO is trying to respond to by helping people suffering from the disease to improve their quality of life. In Malaga, the foundation treats 120 patients and there is a waiting list of 130 people.

For this reason, for these groups all help is essential and Avatés has encouraged them to continue with their work. "We have donated 2,000 euros that we have raised with a lot of work in our kiosk and here is the demonstration of all that we do on a daily basis", said the president of the association, Pepi Moya. Last Monday, Avatés made a donation to the ELA Andalusia association, and also helps the rest of society by " providing food or clothes, we pay rent, electricity, water...", explained Moya.
