The Coronation of Charles III took place last Saturday 6th of May in Westminster Abbey in London, where Charles III was crowned King of the United Kingdom. A historic event that marks a before and after in Great Britain and that has also been celebrated this weekend in our municipality. La Butibamba Park in La Cala de Mijas was the place chosen last Sunday 7th of May to celebrate a party in honour of the new monarchs. According to the Councillor for the Department for Foreigners, Arancha López (Cs), "we are here accompanying all the British residents in Mijas which, as we know, is one of the most important colonies at a national level, as we have approximately 9,000 British residents in our town".

Furthermore, as we were able to see, the new monarchs have already won the affection of the British both at home and abroad. "I think it's going to bring a bit of a change in the UK but still everyone is important to the royal family and the monarchy of the country and it's also good that we can celebrate it here", commented the spokesperson for the PP in Mijas, William Dow Anderson. The president of the La Cala Lions Club, Wynson Beswick, said "I am absolutely delighted. My personal opinion is that he is a very good man. He is the longest apprentice king in history and his ethics are very good because his aim is to serve the people, which is the motto of the Lions.

In addition to the bake-off, there were also solidarity stands, where attendees could collaborate with different associations and enjoy the music and dance performed by a batucada from the Espacio Drang group. Some of the people who attended, such as Maite Jiménez, said "I like the fact that traditions continue. I understand that there are people who don't like it, but I love it and I admire them a lot for what they represent and that they continue with their traditions". Another attendee, Trish Windsor, concluded, "It's nice to celebrate with good people. We were already celebrating together on Saturday but it's also nice to get together with Spanish friends and do it with them. It's a really beautiful thing".
