The order, issued by the Andalusian Regional Government, is established to prevent forest fires, as we are in a period of high risk of fire

The Regional Government of Andalusia has made an extraordinary decision in view of the drought this spring and as part of its strategy to prevent forest fires, which consists of suspending all types of agricultural burning until October 15th, the date on which the period of high danger of forest fires set by the Infoca Plan comes to an end.

Therefore, in Andalusia the burning of brush, grass and woodland residues from forest treatments, phytosanitary and other agricultural work is prohibited, as well as the burning of stubble or residues from agricultural work carried out inside the Zone of Forest Influence (those within 400 metres of forest areas), while the administrative authorisations in force for this purpose are also suspended. The use of fire is also suspended in recreational areas, camping areas and rest areas on the road network, even if they are equipped for this purpose.

Balance of fires

According to provisional statistics, Infoca has so far this year carried out a total of 207 interventions in forest areas, exceeding last year's figures for the same period, with 145 actions, and the average for the last 10 years, which is 125.6 in total. The flames have affected an area of 440 hectares, compared to 251 in the same period last year.
