Groups such as the Lions Club, ACE, Domino, Diksha, Donkey Dreamland and Mijas Felina are some of the participants in this initiative promoted by the Department for Foreigners of the Mijas Town Hall, which takes place on the last Wednesday and Saturday of each month on the Branch Office Square in La Cala de Mijas. The aim of the event is to raise money for charity. “During the pandemic, these groups were in a complicated situation and the Department for Foreigners was there to listen to them and offer them the support they needed at that time”, recalled the councillor for the Department, Arancha López (Cs), who pointed out that, given the positive reception that this initiative has enjoyed, it has been maintained over time. A wide variety of objects can be purchased at this charity market: clothes, toys, accessories, bags, sports clothes... “People have the opportunity to visit these stands and collaborate with the associations by making a donation”, said the councillor. For all these groups, it means extra help, as well as raising awareness about their work. This is the case of Diksha España and Aída Herrera explains the purpose of her association: “We raise funds so that children in India can have a quality education and, basically, we do sponsorship”. For his part, Miguel Pérez, representing Mujeres en Igualdad (Women in Equality), pointed out that his group “is carrying out awareness campaigns to try to minimise cases of gender violence”. The Foreigners’ Department reminds those groups who wish to join this programme that they can do so by sending an email to the department (frd@mijas.es): “Now, when the summer arrives, we will start with the afternoon timetable, which we will announce soon”, stated López. Last Saturday the Costa Soul Singers choir performed at this charity market.
