The Open University in Mijas will finally celebrate its 40th anniversary on the 3rd of May. This was informed by the local administration, which was forced to suspend this cultural event just hours before it was to be held, as a result of the decision of the Electoral Board of the Zone to reject the complaint lodged by the Partido Popular the day before it was due to take place. The Town Hall is therefore holding the event again, scheduled for April 13th and intended to recognise the work of teachers and students who have formed part of this institution over the last 40 years, after receiving the approval of the appeal lodged with the Provincial Electoral Board, which ruled in favour of the local authority and considered the event to be “an academic event, of an institutional nature”. The ‘Junta’ agreed to uphold the appeal by a majority, understanding that “it is an academic act, of an institutional nature, independent of any political party and which may be attended by representatives of all ideological views, not interrupting the normal operation of public activity”, as was clear, according to a statement from the government team, in the resolution sent to the council. According to the Town Hall, a new date is currently being arranged to celebrate the day of coexistence in aid of Adimi, which, as they recalled, had to be suspended as well.
