The Official State Gazette (BOE) published on Tuesday the 4th of March the decrees calling the municipal elections, approved on the 28th of March by the Council of Ministers. On the occasion of these elections, town halls and consulates are obliged to maintain a service to consult the electoral lists in force in their respective municipalities and districts. The period to consult the electoral census will be from next Monday 10th to Monday 17th of April, both inclusive, according to the Statistics Department of the Mijas Town Hall, which explained that in Mijas it can be consulted at the Town Hall, as well as at the branch offices in Las Lagunas and La Cala, from Monday to Friday from 9 to 14 hours. This timetable will be extended in the case of the Las Lagunas branch offices, which will also be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 16:00 to 19:00.
In order to carry out the consultation in person, the interested persons will need to identify themselves beforehand. “The identification document must be one of those indicated in article 85.1 of the Electoral Law for voting: ID card, passport or driving licence with a photograph of the holder”, specified the Statistics Department. In addition to the Town Hall and the branch offices, the census can be consulted at any time on the Town Hall website (www.mijas.es) and at the Electoral Census Office (www.ine.es).
During the consultation period, from 10th to 17th of April, claims may also be made in the event of detecting any errors in the information, although they will not be accepted outside the indicated dates. It should be noted that the electoral census was closed on the 29th of January and therefore those who have been registered in Mijas after that date must vote where they were registered previously.
Voters The Department for Statistics reminded that citizens of Spanish nationality, European Union citizens resident in Spain who have applied to vote and citizens of countries with agreements (Bolivia, Cape Verde, Chile, Colombia, Korea, Ecuador, Iceland, Norway, New Zealand, Paraguay, Peru, United Kingdom and Trinidad and Tobago) who have applied to vote between the 1st of December 2022 and the 15th of January 2023 can participate in these elections.
Voting by post On the other hand, the call for elections also indicates that it is now possible to apply to vote by post for these elections. According to Correos (the Post Office), those who wish to vote by post must apply for a certificate of registration in the Electoral Census up to and including the 18th of May, either telematically on the Correos website (www.correos.es) or in person at any post office. If they opt for the telematic route, they must accredit their identity by means of an electronic signature, accepting as valid identification systems the physical person certificates recognised by the Ministry of Industry and the electronic DNI (DNI-e).
Applications at the offices, for which appointments can be made in advance, must be made in person - except in the case of illness or disability, which will have their corresponding accreditations - with an Identity Document, passport or driving licence. From the 8th of May, those registered to do so will receive the necessary documentation to vote by post, the deadline for which will end on the 24th of May.
