Mijas will have a new bird watching point, which will be located in the upper part of the Roza del Aguado cork oak grove, in La Cala de Mijas. This brings the number of areas identified for bird watching up to three. Of these, one is located in the sierra area and the other on the coast. The conditioning work is being carried out by the Environment Department, with the collaboration of the Simply Thriving Group. “From the Administration we work to enhance the value of the environmental wealth of the municipality and, therefore, we want to publicise these areas and promote the importance of our natural environment for citizens to enjoy and respect it”, said the councillor for the Environment, Arancha López (Cs). The councillor also sent a message of thanks to the group that contributes to the work.
“We would like to thank Simply Thriving Group for their collaboration with the infrastructure and for paying special attention to the environment in Mijas”, said López. The Roza del Aguado Cork Oak Grove is a natural site located in La Cala de Mijas, close to the urban area, where birdwatchers will be able to observe both migratory and native birds The new site has been identified as a bird-watching area in both autumn and spring.
A pergola made of natural materials will be installed there with the collaboration of Simply Thriving Group, which will allow birdwatchers to protect themselves from the sun and the wind that are characteristic in the area. According to the president of the association, Valerie Williams, everyone is “very happy to be able to help and be part of this initiative that will allow us to appreciate the wonders of the natural environment in Mijas”.
