Mijas is getting ready for the high season at Easter, which starts this coming weekend. It is doing so on its beaches, where the Mijas Town Hall, through the Councils for Beaches and Operational Services, activated fifty employees, as reported by the councillor responsible for both departments, José Carlos Martín (Cs), to prepare the coastline of Mijas.
“On Saturday we will welcome the first tourists who will arrive to enjoy our beaches, which is why we have deployed a total of 50 employees including machine drivers, cleaning staff, our own staff, who are carrying out all these tasks to ensure that our coastline is in perfect condition for Easter”, said the councillor.
One of the main objectives of this operation has been the recovery of the coastline, especially on those beaches that have suffered significant losses of sand, where the sea had gained ground. “We are moving almost 5,000 cubic metres of sand to recover these areas, we have taken sand from the mouth of the river, next to the Hotel VIK Gran Hotel Costa del Sol, to the Torreón beach and Los Delfines to return them to their original state and, thus, gain width. The coastal dynamics of the last few storms have not changed, sand has been washed away from these two areas and the surplus sand in the river is being returned to these areas”, explained Martín.
In addition, the Department for Beaches has carried out the installation of new fixtures, as well as the fitting out of the points made available to persons with reduced mobility and the tidying up and clearing of all the beaches and their accesses.
