The mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), the councillor for Infrastructures, José Carlos Martín (Cs), and the managing director of Acosol, Carlos Cañavate, reported on Wednesday morning on the work that Acosol is undertaking in different areas of Calahonda and other locations in the municipality for an amount of 1.8 million euros. Among them is the replacement of the Monteparaíso reservoir. “It is one of the oldest urbanisations in Calahonda and its residents have been demanding improvements for many years. Thanks to the good relations between the Town Hall and Acosol, we have managed to unblock important projects in the last four years and among them is the renovation of the Monteparaíso deposit for a more efficient one of 3,000 cubic metres”, explains González, who stated that “this deposit was sized at the time for a small urbanisation, with a capacity of 800 cubic metres, but this area is in full expansion and it is necessary now to have a larger one to guarantee the water supply”. It is an “important” project, as Martín assures, “which will boost the water supply in this area and both the deposit and the pipes will improve the quality of life for the residents. It has been more than fifty years since they have been renovated and now we are including them as part of the works we have planned together with Acosol. This deposit will be added to the new one we are building in Mijas Pueblo as well as the improvement works on the Cerrajón reservoir”.
Specifically, in Calahonda, the section of the sewage network in calle Monteparaíso has been replaced; the concrete pipe in calle Walter Bayer del Chaparral has been replaced; the installation of a new pipe in Mijas Golf; and the installation of remote control systems in pumping stations and tanks in almost a dozen urbanisations such as Doña Pilar, Mijas Golf, Lomas de Mijas and El Coto.
Also underway are the replacement of the concrete sewerage network section and installation of a rainwater network in Calle Córdoba; replacement of the pipe from the Monteparaiso tank to Club del Sol; replacement of an asbestos cement pipe in Calle Olivos in the Campo Mijas urbanisation; replacement of the pumping stations of the community tank and the Club del Sol tank, both of which are 50 years old; and replacement of the Monteparaiso tank. “This Monteparaiso deposit is key to the distribution of water in the southern area of Calahonda. Right now it is in the project phase, almost ready to be put out to tender, so we hope that in a couple of months at the most we will enter into the execution phase, which will guarantee the future development of this area and which will mean a very important investment of almost one million euros’’, adds Cañavate.
