Mijas takes another step towards the materialisation of new health infrastructures for the municipality. The local government approved on Wednesday at the ordinary plenary session in March a motion regarding the signing of a collaboration agreement between the Mijas Town Hall and the Regional Government of Andalusia to promote the improvement and expansion of health services and infrastructure in the municipality.
“I have personally met on several occasions with the delegate of the Government of the ‘Junta’ in Malaga, Patricia Navarro, and we have agreed on the drafting of this motion that is known to the Ministry of Health, which opens a door of communication with the competent institution to expand the health services and infrastructure that we have in our municipality and which is none other than the Andalusian Government”, said the mayor Josele Gonzalez (PSOE) in plenary session, recalling that in the January plenary session, the Mijas Town Hall “undertook to take on the construction of a future health facility through a motion in which the ‘Junta de Andalucía’ was urged to sign a collaboration agreement between the two governments and by which the ‘Junta’ would undertake to be responsible for the implementation, maintenance and staffing of the same, as happened in Estepona”.
The objective, according to González, is to alleviate the pressure on healthcare in a municipality that “has been demanding the improvement of health infrastructures and the adaptation to population growth over the last few years”.
Therefore, the motion proposes that the Junta de Andalucía should promote the improvement and extension of healthcare coverage in the municipality, especially in primary care, emergency and speciality services. It also urges the regional government to study and verify the technical suitability of the land offered by the Mijas Town Hall and the location of health infrastructures that could respond to the existing demands in the municipality, and once the suitability of the plot has been verified by the technicians of the Regional Ministry of Health, to reach an agreement between the Regional Government and the Town Hall for the construction of the facilities.
“From the Town Hall we have done everything in our power and we continue to reach out to them. The same has happened with the residence for Senior Citizens. We carry out responsible municipal management, which allows us to be sufficiently financially solvent to be able to deal with this type of investment, which is not our responsibility, but not even by financing the projects do we get a ‘yes’. We will continue to fight for these services that are so necessary and in demand in the municipality”, said the first deputy mayor, José Carlos Martín (Cs).
