In the Sierra de Mijas, more precisely in the area of Entrerríos, the Department for the Environment is carrying out work to prevent forest fires, eliminate invasive species and strengthen the replanted flora, thanks to a brigade of specialised workers.
This was reported by the councillor for this department, Arancha López (Cs), who stated that “we have been working on these tasks for several days now, which complement the efforts to repopulate this area that was destroyed in the fire in 2012”.
In fact, this work is focused on the area affected by the fire and where emphasis has been placed on its recovery, entailing, reforestation activities that require continuous watering so that the flora can settle.
Meanwhile, for the time being, the brigade that is working in the area is carrying out clearing work, according to Miguel Núñez, the forestry foreman of the ‘Joven Ahora’ programme, part of the Environment Department: “We are here to reduce the density of the pine tree population, because when a pine cone falls and they all grow very close together, there is very little survival rate, so by reducing the numbers, we ensure that those that do take seed grow better and stronger”.
