Mijas renews the fleet of vehicles for its cleaning & rubbish collection service

  • Mayor Josele Gonzalez and the councillor for cleaning, Laura Moreno, presented the new trucks on Tuesday 21st |

30 new units have been made operational, one third of the total to be incorporated into this service

The mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), and the councillor for Cleaning, Laura Moreno (PSOE), presented the new fleet of vehicles for the street cleaning and urban waste collection service (RSU) of the municipality on Tuesday 21st.

In total, 30 new vehicles have already been incorporated into the cleaning service of the town and are screen-printed with the new slogan, ‘Mijas limpia contigo’ (Mijas cleans with you). “These 30 new vehicles will replace a fleet that was out of date with the very latest in machinery. They are pressure washers, sweepers, side and rear loaders and trucks for the collection of rubbish and furniture, which will undoubtedly facilitate the work of the cleaning staff and will result in a better cleaning service for the citizens”, said González, who added that these vehicles “incorporate the new slogan of the Town Hall’s awareness campaign, ‘Mijas limpia contigo’ (Mijas cleans with you). With it we are seeking allies among the residents of the municipality, so that together we can make Mijas look better”.

In addition to the new cleaning slogan, these vehicles incorporate the shield of the Mijas Town Hall and images of the three centres, Mijas Pueblo, Las Lagunas and La Cala, “so that anyone who comes across these trucks, pressure washers or sweepers in the street immediately identifies them with Mijas”, added the mayor.

For her part, councillor Moreno stressed that these 30 vehicles “represent a third of the new vehicles that we are going to incorporate to continue to respond to the cleaning requirements of a municipality as large as Mijas, with 149 square kilometres. Much of the machinery we had could not be moved to the urbanisations and now we will not only be able to notably improve the working conditions of our workers, but also complement the cleaning service we provide in these areas of the municipality”.

A more efficient service
This renewal of the fleet of vehicles is included in the new cleaning contract “which responds to each and every one of the requirements for the municipality”, added Moreno, who stressed the importance of raising awareness among the public so that they collaborate with the municipality’s cleanliness, highlighting the importance of “calling the free rubbish collection service number, which will come to your door or to the nearest container. There is no need to leave furniture abandoned on the public thoroughfare”.

Among the new vehicles that can already be seen on the streets of the municipality are pressure washers “with which we will tackle the problem of dog urine in areas such as Las Lagunas. Right now we are using pine and lemon scents in both the tanks and the pressure washers, and it’s quite noticeable in the streets”, said Carmen Tella, the head of FCC, the company providing the service. They also include a device that indicates how many times a certain area of the municipality has been cleaned.
