Until Friday, citizens can also vote for the most popular photograph on the Environment Facebook account

The councillor for the Environment at the Mijas Town Hall, Arancha López (Cs), praised the good response to the photography competition organised for the third year by her department on the occasion of World Tree Day.  According to the councillor, in this edition "we have received almost one hundred images, of which we have already pre-selected 36 and we will award prizes to four of them". López also recalled that "the public will be responsible for voting for the most popular photograph on social networks, so the image that receives the most 'likes' will be awarded 50 euros", adding that "those interested have until this Friday to choose their favourite photo through our Facebook account".

There will also be a first prize of 200 euros, a second prize of 100 euros and a third prize of 50 euros, all sponsored by the company Eastwest. "As always, the jury will evaluate the aesthetics, technique and originality of the images", said López, "and next week we will announce the winning photographs.

As for the snapshots that have been received, it seems that there are certain trees that always attract a lot of attention from the participants. "We could say that the holm oak of the Alcarihuela is the star, as well as the pine and carob tree found in El Hornillo, but there is diversity in terms of the area, because we have also received photos from areas such as Calahonda or Entrerríos, among others", said the Environment technician Juan Luis Vega.

The aim of this contest is none other than to create awareness about the botanical wealth of Mijas and the more than 50 trees catalogued in the municipality for their uniqueness, "and that the citizens know that we have up to eight routes that can be discovered by taking a nice walk, both in mountain and urban areas", concluded the councillor for the Environment.
