The Association of Relatives of Alzheimer's patients and other Dementias of Mijas (AFA Mijas), in view of the unfortunate growth that the disease is experiencing in the municipality and the need for treatment and specialised care for patients, will open a new classroom in La Cala in order to provide cognitive stimulation workshops. 

The councillor for Social Services, Hipólito Zapico (PSOE), stressed this Friday at the headquarters of AFA in Mijas Pueblo that "the proposal arose through the Lions Club of La Cala, because some elderly people who are part of the group or are attended by the Lions Club itself are getting older and are affected by the disease, and when they have tried to go to a centre to receive therapeutic care they have been treated in Spanish, so it is more difficult to communicate". Zapico also explained that "the idea is that in the workshops there should be someone who can speak English so that we can attend to these people in their own language".
