The first deputy mayor and councillor for Works and Infrastructures of the Mijas Town Hall, José Carlos Martín (Cs), reported on Monday the work done so far by the Mijas Local Government to improve the road that gives access to Entrerríos, which covers a stretch of 2.5 kilometres from the bridge that connects this area of the municipality with the road to La Cala de Mijas.
At the moment, as explained by the councillor, the drafting of a project “that will resolve, mainly, the limited width of this section” has already been completed.
In this regard, Martin recalled that, “especially at night or when it rains, the road presents problems when drivers are trying to turn, up to the point that, sometimes, vehicles invade the opposite lane due to lack of space to maneuver”.
The project which is already drafted reflects the widening of the entire stretch so that the roads will have a width of three meters in both directions of traffic. It would also include two-metre shoulders on both sides, a new street lighting network, which has been non-existent in the area until now, and improvements to the road’s infrastructure and drainage.
“We have also planned to build a roundabout just before reaching the Entrerríos bridge and a linking section between the road and the old route, which will be located at the junction of the bridge, all to increase the safety of road and pedestrian traffic”, added the councillor.
These works have an approximate execution period of twelve months and entail an investment of close to 3.7 million euros; a budget that, according to the head of Infrastructures in Mijas, “will probably be allocated through a budgetary amendment, which is something we will try to put in place in the shortest possible time, because these works will mean a leap in the quality of life of the neighbors who live in the area, in addition to significantly improving the connections and road traffic in this vicinity”.
