Work on Camino de Campanales is now 45% completed

The work, scheduled to take 6 months, involves an investment of 2.1 million euros

At the end of November last year, work began on the first phase of the widening of Camino de Campanales, from Venta la Morena to Calle Doronja, at the height of the talc factory. This is a project that has a completion period of six months and is currently 45% complete, so “it is on time and on target”, according to the councillor for Infrastructure and Works, José Carlos Martín (Cs), who recalled that 2.1 million euros are being invested in the planned works.
“The first aim of the project is to solve the hydraulic problems that this area suffered from and which caused us so many problems during the floods in 2016”, explained the councillor, adding that this will be solved with large frames that will allow water to flow more easily when there are major floods. The other objective of the project is to improve traffic: “On the one hand, a roundabout is going to be built, which will allow for turning and joining both Camino de Coín and Camino de Campanales and, on the other hand, this will be improved with the widening of the roads”. The widening of the road will also mean the creation of a protected area for pedestrians to walk through; in addition, with the works, LED street lights will be installed to make the area safer. One of the branches of the roundabout will also connect with the future Gran Parque de la Costa del Sol. The idea of the Infrastructures and Works Department is to first build the roundabout and put it into operation to avoid the dangerous turns that used to be made and, in the meantime, the rest of the work will be carried out.
From the start of the works, the Camino de Campanales road has been closed to traffic, but the Camino de Coín road will be practically unaffected. “Some specific work will be carried out because when we put the roundabout into service we will be able to continue with the bridge without affecting Camino de Coín, which will practically at no time cease to allow traffic to continue”, said the councillor, who recalled that this road is being used as an alternative to the present closure to traffic.
