He is one of the literary phenomena of the moment and carries his home town Mijas and the province of Málaga as his flagship. Precisely in recognition of this successful career as a writer and for being an ambassador for his town, the Town Hall will name Javier Castillo Favourite Son of Mijas. The institutional motion signed by the mayor, Josele González (PSOE), was registered on Thursday 16th for approval at the plenary session to be held next Wednesday 22nd.
“Javier Castillo has become our best ambassador, a Mijeño who has transcended borders and has tasted the sweetness of success thanks to his talent in the world of literature. In Mijas we could not be prouder to see how this neighbour from Las Lagunas is already a literary reference in our country”, explained González, who specified that the idea of naming him Favourite Son “came from the artist’s own grandmother, who asked us for recognition from the town that saw him grow up and we could not agree more, he deserves to be a prophet in his own land”. The appointment of Javier Castillo as Favourite Son, the highest distinction of the municipality, will be the first that González has made in this mandate as mayor of Mijas. An “indisputable recognition for an example of achievement and talent for many Mijeños and Mijeñas”. According to the mayor, after the approval of the appointment in the next plenary session, the next step will be to find a date and place for the award ceremony, which “will probably be at the Las Lagunas Theatre so that all his family, friends and, of course, neighbours of Mijas, can show him their affection and admiration”.
