The first deputy mayor and councillor for Beaches in Mijas, José Carlos Martín (Cs), took stock on Tuesday morning of the damage caused by the storm along the Mijas coastline which, this time, has not been as intense as on other occasions. "So far, the Coastal Path has not suffered any damage, and is therefore open in its entirety. It is true that the sand has reached some sections and, therefore, since Saturday we have had machinery and personnel clearing this area", explained the councillor, who added that "the damage has been noticed on the walkways and accesses to the beaches, which have been washed away by the sea
There are currently one hundred workers in charge of clearing away all the vegetation washed up by the storm and removing the sand from the path. For this, three tractors, a mini machine, an 18-tonne rotary and a loader have been put into operation. "Our aim is to act quickly and to keep an eye on how the weather evolves", added the deputy mayor.
"One of the issues that most concerns the public is the state of the beaches in the run-up to Easter, as this is when our tourist season begins and it affects many businesses", assured Martín, who added that "by then the coastline will be ready to welcome visitors."
