100 people from Mijas have joined the social and labour insertion programme 'Renta Básica' to provide their services for the next 6 months and to find a new opportunity to access the labour market after this period. These workers join the 900 that the public company Mijas Servicios Complementarios, in charge of managing this employment plan, hired during 2022 to work in the different tasks that are carried out to improve the municipality. According to the mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), who welcomed the new employees this morning, this incorporation "strengthens the commitment of the Town Hall to this programme, in which, in these last four years and since I became mayor, we have improved the working conditions of the employees and updated the resources provided".
The delegate councillors for Mijas Servicios Complementarios, Laura Moreno (PSOE) and Arancha López (Cs), also came to the Fomento del Empleo building this morning to wish them all the best in this new employment phase: this programme "is a lifesaver for them because there are many people, for example, those over 45 years old, who find it more difficult to access the current labour market. From here we give them all the possible tools so that their insertion is real", explained Moreno. For her part, López added that "from the Town Hall we will continue to support this programme that gives opportunities to many residents of the municipality who, for various reasons, find themselves in a long period of unemployment. Our aim is to always go hand in hand with them, adapt to their needs and give them the opportunity to access the labour market through their nearest public administration".
The Local Council also assured that "we are going to continue working in this line in which we have reached, at the beginning of 2023, an important milestone in the town, which is to obtain the lowest unemployment rate in the last 14 years", said the mayor, who added that this is possible "thanks to the commitment of this government team to providing quality employment opportunities in our municipality".
An "improved" programme
The Town Hall assured that the success of this job insertion programme is also due, as González affirmed, to "the substantial improvements carried out, such as the increase in salaries, the improvement of timetables and, above all, the better organisation and training for the work carried out". The mayor said that "four years ago this organisation could have been much better, therefore we have had a lot of room for improvement and I believe that today the company has evolved for the better, which consolidates the project and demonstrates the commitment of the Town Hall with the company Mijas Servicios Complementarios and with Renta Básica, which we will always continue to support".
The opinion of the employees
Of the 100 workers who joined the Renta Básica programme this morning, Mijas Comunicación spoke to two of them. José María Martínez said that this job opportunity "is very good for me because I am at an age when I am no longer hired and it is difficult for me to access the labour market. This opportunity that the Town Hall is giving me is very important for me". Another worker, Elena Fernández, said that, with this opportunity, she hopes to have "the possibility of finding a decent job after this employment programme, I don't care what it is, but a more stable job".
