After the heavy rainfall last week, the Aemet activated the amber alert for strong gusts of wind and coastal phenomena.
The Mijas Town Hall registered more than ten incidents due to the wind and rain storm, which has hit the province in recent days and which has left numerous incidents throughout the length and breadth of Andalusia.
On this occasion, the storm was not as intense as in previous years, but it did leave behind a range of material damage. In order to respond to these incidents, the Mijas Town Hall reinforced the response and action services formed by Firefighters, Local Police and municipal staff, among others, who during these days are working to restore the effects of the windstorm and coastal phenomena.
Most of the incidents reported were related to the detachment of cornices and metal sheets, structural elements or the falling of trees in housing estates and urban areas. Precisely, the local government set up two teams of gardeners specialised in pruning and mobilised two basket lorries and a brush collection lorry to remove trees and branches that had fallen or were at risk of falling on the public highway as a result of the storm.
Finally, the local council would like to thank citizens for their cooperation during the days of high risk of rain as a result of last week's storm, which forced the closure of the Fuengirola-Gomenaro river crossings as a precautionary measure against the flooding of the river due to the heavy rainfall in the whole area.
