The International Red Cross has launched an emergency appeal to help those affected by the earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on Monday the 6th of February. "The international federation has calculated that around 200 million euros will be needed to deal with the post-disaster requirements in both countries, which is why the other Red Cross branches are trying to help by raising the necessary funds", said the president of the local assembly of the Mijas Red Cross, Luis Miguel Díaz.

The earthquake in Turkey and Syria has left more than 36,000 dead and thousands injured. According to the organisation, the needs in both countries are growing by the minute. Rescue teams are working in the most affected areas. The local entity and Mijas Town Hall have wanted to join this emergency appeal. "From the area of Social Services we have a close relationship with Cruz Roja Mijas. On this occasion, we also joined this appeal knowing that the organisation has launched various fundraising channels to raise money for the cause", said the councillor for this area, Hipólito Zapico (PSOE).
