The national healthcare company B. Braun chose the El Chaparral beach in Mijas to carry out a corporate social initiative. The activity, which took place on Thursday the 2nd of February, consisted of cleaning and removing exotic plants from the coastal environment, as well as repopulating it with native plants. The group of 93 workers also created ‘super seeds’ to reforest the soil degraded by the last fire in the Sierra de Mijas. The action is developed through the local event management company Exploramás.
According to B. Braun’s Sales Manager, María Luisa Villa, “we were looking for a proposal that would allow us to integrate with other teams and carry out joint activities as a company”. For her part, Eva Rosado, founding partner of Exploramás, explained that “they are carrying out a team activity to improve their relationships and, at the same time, help the environment of El Chaparral. They are undertaking a very complete intervention because it has an impact on two areas, here on the beach but also in the Sierra de Mijas”.
From the Department for the Environment, which collaborates with the management of the event, the councillor responsible for the area, Arancha López (Cs), said that “this year, among the activities that we have suggested, this was for the beach, as it has a very rich environment and great biodiversity”. According to Juan Luis Vega, Environment technician, “we welcome this type of initiative and we strive to find the most ideal setting to suit the type of volunteer”.
In addition to the clean-up, the group got to know the local flora, and repopulated with native plants from the nursery, as well as collecting seeds for future planting. The activity also includes another initiative in the Sierra de Mijas, where the burnt area will be reforested with special seeds to regenerate the malnourished soil. Noemí Rodríguez, one of the participants, said that “everything counts for nature and this is a bonus for the care of the planet”.
