The first phase of the works to eradicate flooding in the Nueva Laguna neighbourhood has been completed. The Río Tinto and Guadalete streets have now been opened to traffic following the complete remodelling of both. The project, which is part of the work being carried out by the Department for Infrastructures and Works in Mijas to eliminate this historic problem, is part of a global project in which a total of 1.1 million euros is being invested.
With this Budget, in addition to the first phase already finished, which has involved the reform of the streets Río Tinto and Guadalete, a second phase is being undertaken which will involve the remodelling of Madreselva and Buganvillas streets. The works began last January with a completion period of four months.
A complete renovation of the drainage system has been carried out on Río Tinto and Guadalete streets, the most outstanding feature being the separation of the rainwater and sewage networks, which means that the infrastructures can evacuate rainwater with greater efficiency. Likewise, a new network has been installed for the telephone, electricity, communications and street lighting services. These streets also have new paving in keeping with the aesthetics of the rest of the municipality, as well as modifications to the pavements to accommodate persons with reduced mobility.
