“Since the creation of Mijas Servicios Complementarios (MSC) a little over a decade ago, the fleet of vehicles has never been updated”. This was stated last Monday 30th by the mayor of Mijas, Josele Gonzalez (PSOE), together with the councillors of this municipal company in charge of developing the Social and Labour Insertion Programme Basic Income, Laura Moreno (PSOE) and Arancha Lopez (Cs). 

For the first time in its history, the company is renewing its vehicles and incorporating others, according to the councillor. In total, Mijas Servicios Comlementarios now has “41 new vehicles, including 26 large vans and two trucks of up to 3,500 kilos that will provide greater flexibility in heavier tasks such as clearing brush or beaches”, said the mayor and president of MSC, who clarified that both trucks and large vans are new additions. 

For mayor González, who estimated the investment at almost one million euros, this renovation “will optimise the service provided in the municipality by the workers in the local employment programme Renta Básica, which will benefit the citizens of Mijas”.

In this regard, Moreno, who explained that the contract for the renewal of the fleet of vehicles has been signed “for three years plus a possible two-year extension”, stated that the employees will be able to “carry out their duties in optimum conditions and save time, above all, with the large capacity vans, which will make it easier for them not to have to make so many transfers to take the staff to the different locations point where they carry out their work”. 

At the current moment, the Basic Income Programme has a workforce of around 300 employees who “will all gain in safety when it comes to making their transfers with this new fleet, which was awarded through a ublic tender process”, added López, in this regard. 

For the CEO of the municial company, this demonstrates, “once again, the good management carried out by Mijas Servicios Complementarios to continue improving the working conditions of our employees”. 

“They are all very satisfied because they have gained in safety with this new fleet, which ranges from two-seater vehicles to a maximum of nine seats, including the two trucks,” concluded MSC’s manager, Mariam Mustafa Embarek.
