Ana Serrano Lozano, better known as Ana 'Cañón', from Mijas, has dedicated a good part of her life to the El Juncal neighbourhood and this Friday El Juncal has rewarded her generosity. Hundreds of neighbours from El Juncal were on hand to support Serrano at the inauguration of a park that now bears her name. The mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), and the councillor for Infrastructures, José Carlos Martín (Cs), presided over the event, which was also attended by other members of the corporation, as well as family members of the honouree.
"Some time ago, through the Neighbourhood Association of El Juncal, we took up the proposal to name this square after Ana Serrano Lozano, or as we all know her, Ana Cañón. For me, as mayor, but, above all, as a former neighbour of El Juncal, it is an honour to see this square bearing her name from now on. The name of a woman whose generosity and tireless work has won the affection of the residents of this neighbourhood", said Gonzalez, who stressed how she "has devoted 50 years of her life to fight for the future of the district through various festive and humanitarian activities, both from the residents' association and the Association of Senior Citizens of Las Lagunas".
For his part, Martin said that "Ana is a generous and involved woman with her neighbourhood who has always been and is, despite her age, at the service of her neighbours, which is why she deserves to have the square located above the most important infrastructure in the area named after her", and added that "it is a day of emotions, because in addition to this acclaimed recognition, there is the satisfaction of a positive balance in the first year of use of the car parks that have prevented the residents in this area from having to drive around to find parking when they come home". For his part, PP councillor Daniel Gómez Teruel said that "from the Partido Popular we support the naming of this location after Ana 'Cañón', a woman who has done a lot for the neighbourhood and who has given so much to the residents".
Inauguration of the car park
This park, located on the surface of the El Juncal car park, has children's games, street furniture and a multi-purpose building. During its official inauguration, in which a mural by the local ceramist José Ángulo was unveiled, there were performances by the Las Lagunas Musical Group, as well as children's activities and a snack for those attending.
