Burns Night took place on Wednesday the 25th of January

Born on January the 25th 1759, Robert Burns is considered the best-loved Scottish-language poet and pioneer of the Romantic movement. He is a cultural icon in Scotland and for his community worldwide. His work deals primarily with Scottish folklore as seen from the perspective of the working classes; he addresses issues such as poverty, sexuality, gender roles and the Scottish church. On the occasion of this anniversary, Lisa Foley, together with the Scottish community, organised a party to commemorate his memory. “He was a poet and writer and for many years, Burns Night has been celebrated, where we read various orations and poems. His works are very romantic. The event was attended by the former British Consul in Andalusia, Charmaine Arbouin: “Robert Burns is the bard of Scotland, which makes him their national poet. He has an incredible range of works that all Scots know. But the British should know him too”. During the dinner, PP Mijas Town Hall councillor, Bill Anderson, was acknowledged, among other things, for his altruistic work on behalf of the community during the pandemic. “I feel very humbled by the fact that they have organised this, even more so on the night of the 25th of January for Scotland’s national poet, which means that I have the perfect  excuse to dress up in Scottish attire and it’s going to be a great night”, said the councillor, who is also a personal friend of the organiser. Anderson, who was accompanied by PP councillor at the Town Hall,  Mario Bravo, highlighted the figure of Burns: “He is one of Scotland’s literary heroes and all over the world Scots celebrate and recite his poems.
