During the last few weeks, the solidarity stands in La Cala have dressed up for Christmas, every Wednesday and Saturday, to offer neighbours and visitors good options for gifts for the festive season. However, these stalls are used for much more than just raising funds, as the groups that participate in this initiative can also promote their altruistic and selfless work. "We help many families by providing food and, now, toys, with the collaboration of other associations such as the Lions Club", explained Ana Verdú, director of Cáritas in La Cala, who also stated "we have very few things on our table because we focus more on talking to people to make ourselves known".
The volunteers from the La Cala Lions Club never miss this appointment either, with their diabetes prevention programme, through which they offer free glucose tests and, according to volunteer Mercy Chapman, "we answer questions about this disease, because there are many people who don't know anything about it".
This Saturday, 24th of December, the last solidarity stands in 2022 will be set up, from eleven in the morning to two in the afternoon. The councillor for the Department for Foreigners, Arancha López (Cs), encouraged citizens to "come along in the morning to the Branch Office square in La Cala to do their last Christmas shopping and collaborate with these associations, which we have to thank so much because they help people in need or, on the other hand, animals who are looking for a second home". Likewise, López recalled that "the Foreigners Department collaborates with this initiative by providing the space on the square and supporting the associations wherever possible, and we are, as always, delighted to do so".
