The works on Estepona Street in La Cala are now 80% completed

  • The total investment is 175,000 euros and the duration of the work is approximately four months.

The work is expected to be finished at the beginning of January next year

The works on Calle Estepona, in La Cala de Mijas, are progressing at a very good pace and will be completed in January. The first deputy mayor and councillor for Infrastructures and Works, José Carlos Martín (Cs), stressed that “this is a very necessary project from the point of view of the renovation of the sewage network. This area has presented problems and, based on this, the complete renovation of the entire street is being carried out. The work is very advanced, 80% complete, and is expected to be finished at the beginning of January next year”. Consequently, the street now has a separate rainwater and sewage network that will allow for more effective evacuation of rainwater to avoid flooding. “This is a black spot for flooding in this part of the centre of La Cala. We have already eradicated many of these problems in nearby areas including Los Cordobeses and in other parts of the municipality such as the Water Park, the area around the Las Lagunas Health Centre and Las Cañadas”.

In addition, this work has also involved the installation of additional new channelling for services such as electricity, street lighting and telecommunications. “The street lights have now been fitted with LEDs, which allows for greater energy and economic savings. This street will gain in lighting quality, and therefore also in safety”, said the councillor.

  • The councillor for Works, José Carlos Martín, visited the works on Tuesday 14th.

The total investment is 175,000 euros and the duration of the work is approximately four months. In addition to these improvements, the project is already in its final phase concerning the street surface, where the architectural barriers have been removed and the typical paving in the municipality has been laid. “For us, all the residents  are equal, regardless of their degree of mobility, which is why we work every day so that they can go through the streets of Mijas in the same conditions and in a more accessible town”, concluded Martin.
