The first deputy mayor and councillor for Tourism of Mijas, José Carlos Martín (Cs), has assessed the data provided by the Association of Hoteliers of the Costa del Sol (Aehcos) as "very positive", which reports that during the first half of November, the most popular destinations in the province have been the towns of Mijas and Malaga.
In fact, these days have worked particularly well for the province of Malaga, with an occupancy rate of 73.13%, while during this second fortnight of November, occupancy is close to 60%, with Mijas and Malaga again being the most in demand.
For Martin, the response of tourists to the offer of Mijas "is very good because our offer is very good", because "we have been working very hard, constantly and, as you can see, effectively to continue attracting visitors.
In this sense, the councillor stressed that "increasingly, tourists arrive at any time of year, so our offer of sun and beach is complemented by other segments such as the white village, the gastronomy and, above all, golf, which provides a strong boost that is breaking the seasonality of tourism.
For the Councillor for Tourism, the work that "has been developed from Mijas to project it as a safe destination in all its forms continues to bear fruit" and "the work that has been done to reach other sectors of interest such as sports tourism is shown in that the town is becoming a reference hosting major events of this nature, both professional and amateur, which are always an extra focus of attraction".
As for December and its long weekends (between the 2nd and 6th, and between the 7th and 11th), according to Aehcos the outlook is promising, consolidating the province as a great destination at this time and, once again, with Mijas and Malaga leading the occupancy figures to date.
"It is still too early to know how we are going to close 2022", said José Carlos Martín, "but after some really complicated years due to the impact of Covid, Mijas has been able to contextualise and focus its offer in such a way that it has adapted quickly to the new situation" and "the good figures we are seeing are undoubtedly the result of the planning and work that has been developed from the Tourism area and the other departments of the Town Hall with which it has been coordinated".
In fact, the figures may improve even more as on long weekends tourists tend to wait until the last minute and the decision to travel or not is influenced by the weather forecast for those days, so "we still have to wait to see how well the tourist year closes in Mijas", concluded Martín.
