This activity, organised by Erasmus+ and the Aqua Maris Foundation, allowed the 12 students who are part of this programme to get to know the Coastal Path.

“We collaborated both with the Environmental Department and the Foreigners’ Department in an activity with the students in this programme. The activity was bilingual, both in Spanish and English, where they were able to learn more about the environmental wealth of Mijas”, said the councillor for both departments, Arancha López (Cs), who explained that “it consisted of a tour along the Coastal Path where environmental technicians have explained about both the flora and fauna of the area and at the same time, the staff from the Foreigners Department have translated the information into English”.

Six Spanish and six German students were the lucky ones to enjoy this outdoor activity in which “we have observed a lot about the fauna, flora and many sea creatures, such as crabs and shells. From here I encourage everyone who has the opportunity to participate in this programme because it is a lot of fun”, said one of the participating students from IES Vega de Mijas, Ángela Palomino. In addition, the Environment technician Juan Luis Vega, explained: “they have learned about the wealth of the coast of Mijas, not only the natural part but also in terms of heritage”.

Erasmus+ and Aqua Maris

The students have been able to carry out this activity along the Coastal Path thanks to Erasmus+ and Aqua Maris, whose objective is to investigate and disseminate the therapeutic and nutritional properties of seawater. It is “funded by the European Economic Community that promotes and facilitates knowledge about the coastline of five European countries.

In addition, the programme encourages the exchange of students to learn about the customs of each of these countries”, explained Francisco Javier de la Rosa, Technology Professor at the Vega de Mijas Secondary School.
