The Department for Operational Services of the Mijas Town Hall has launched its new Plan for the Protection and Safety of Secondary Roads in Valtocado, which will also reach other areas of the municipality. Among its main objectives, this plan "includes the installation of new crash barriers to prevent vehicles from coming off the road in the sections considered to be the most dangerous", explained the councillor for this area, José Carlos Martín (Cs), "although we are also taking the opportunity to remove, in some points, the 'New Jersey' type concrete barriers, which are much more damaging in the event of any type of impact", added the councillor. 

Municipal workers are currently working in the area around Valtocado, where 350 linear metres of guardrails are being installed, distributed over up to six stretches of road, "and from here we will move on to other areas of the municipality such as Entrerríos, La Cala or Campo Mijas", said Martín, adding that "we will simultaneously work in other places to replace damaged, broken or wooden guardrails". 

This first phase, which covers a total of 600 linear metres of guardrails at different points in the municipality, has a budget of 60,000 euros. "From Operational Services we want to allocate a budget of 60,000 or 70,000 euros to this type of safety measures, to install them where the technicians consider most necessary, all to improve our network of secondary roads, which is quite extensive in Mijas", concluded the councillor.
