Last Tuesday, the Foreigners department of the Mijas Town Hall, in collaboration with the companies Blacktower Financial Management Group and My Lawyer In Spain, organised an informative talk, aimed especially at the almost 9,000 British people living in our town. "These talks, in addition to providing information, also give all of them the opportunity to ask questions and resolve any doubts or uncertainties they may have", said the councillor for Foreigners, Arancha López (Cs), who added that "tax and health issues, what rights they currently have, among others, are addressed and it is essential that they are informed at this time".
Collaborating with the Department for Foreigners in this informative talk is the company Blacktower Financial Management Group. "We focus on financial issues, especially when they come to spend more than 183 days in Spain because they are final residents and need to know what the consequences are", said Tim Govaerts, associate director of Blacktower Financial Management Group. The Town Hall insists that if they have any doubts about Brexit or bureaucratic issues, they should contact the Foreigners Department of the Town Hall.
Loss of rights
British residents on the Costa del Sol say they are not very happy with Brexit because they consider that in this process they have lost rights such as, for example, says Anne Hernández, president of the Brexpats in Spain association, "the right to drive in Spain with a British licence, we have to validate it, the right to vote in British elections, the banks in England are closing the accounts of British non-residents and some have their pensions, mortgages, investments, cards paid there" and she concludes by saying that "it is a horrible mess and those who voted in favour of Brexit are regretting it", assures Hernández.
