The solidarity stands organised by the Department for Foreigners returned last weekend to La Cala de Mijas. This is an opportunity on the last Wednesday and Saturday of each month to learn about the work undertaken by the participating associations and to collaborate with them. Soroptimist International Costa del Sol is one of the groups which is back at the Solidarity stands. The president of the group, Daphne Theunissen, stated: “we are still helping women who are victims of gender violence and we are also raising funds to sponsor the women’s union basketball team”. As a novelty, the association Aristochat joins the initiative last week. In addition, live music is also making the charity event more and more popular.
The councillor for the Department for Foreigners, Arancha López (Cs) praised the performances on Saturday: “Costa Soul Singers are a group of people who sing in English and provide the perfect atmosphere for the solidarity gatherings, and there were a group of girls who danced and who collaborate with the Diksha association”. On the stands there are articles that we can purchase, for example, to make a gift. At the Mijas Felina stand you can find items made by the artist Helen Bellart, who assured: “I think it is a great job that they are doing rescuing and helping the cats and I am doing my bit”. The secretary of the association, Mijas Felina, Manuela Bernardo, commented that “to help the association you can buy any of the products we bring, become a member, or support the colony’s feeder, collecting cats or by becoming a foster home”. The solidarity stands make the work of the associations more visible and are also a source of funding for their social activities. They are now open for the autumn, on the last Wednesday and Saturday of each month from 11 to 14 hours.
