Barely two weeks after returning from the golf fair in Rome, the Mijas delegation is preparing for its next destination: The World Travel Market in London, an appointment which, assured the mayor, Josele González (PSOE) on Thursday 3rd, “cannot be missed, as 30% of the Mijas population is British, so considering that it is the most British municipality in Andalusia, predominantly due to the level of British residents living in our town, we have a tremendously positive letter of introduction, in addition, we are going to London with absolute confidence and, also, with the duty to recover the level of British who have been coming to the Costa del Sol since 2019”. The briefcase, they assured, is full of good expectations and attractions to continue appealing to English tourism, from the sun and beach segment, sports and luxury, after the recent opening of the five-star hotel La Zambra; “segments to which we will always continue to provide quality and diversity such as the nature sector, the gastronomic, the historical-artistic or the Mediterranean white village”, added the mayor. For his part, the councillor for Tourism, José Carlos Martín (Cs), added that “the British market is loyal to our destination and is our main source of foreign visitors. We have set out to recover the numbers of 2019 and to do so we are deploying all our potential in London. It is the first fair after Covid that is going to be held without the strict capacity restrictions of the last two years, and we hope to experience the same welcome we received at the IGTM in Rome”. Summer occupancy The head of the Tourism Area, Juan Carlos Acevedo, pointed out that it is now easier for the British to come to Mijas, as there are almost twenty daily flight connections between Malaga airport and different cities in the UK. “British tourism is reactivated, as seen this summer and statistics show that there has been higher occupation by this market”.
