Clean streets in Mijas with the campaign 'Your dog will be proud of you'

  • The aim is to keep public spaces free of our pets' excrement and urine
  • The mayor, in the centre, with the councillor for Public Areas |

The initiative, which will include prizes, seeks to involve the public, asking them to upload a photo of their dogs with the hashtag #cuidamijas

Following the campaign 'Anonymous heroes', we now announce a new initiative entitled 'Your dog will be proud of you'. This is a new programme within the 'Cuida Mijas' edition, which aims to keep the streets clean of our pets' excrement and urine, because this, assured the mayor of Mijas, Josele Gónzalez (PSOE), is everyone's task. "No matter how much the cleaning services work daily on the streets, if we do not raise awareness and work as a team, it will be hard to achieve our goal".

The campaign seeks to involve neighbours by uploading a photo of their pet to Instagram with the hashtag #cuidamijas. Just for participating, they will receive a walking kit with a fanny pack, a key ring with bags to collect the excrement and a bottle to dilute urine. These can be picked up at the  Mijas Town Hall or at the Branch Offices in La Cala and Las Lagunas. Participants will also enter a draw to win two 100-euro vouchers to spend on their pets and one 100-euro voucher for a dinner in a restaurant in the municipality. "I think it is an attractive, innovative, fun campaign, in which we will try to involve the maximum number of groups in the municipality and the residents in general, through the municipal media, making this campaign as viral as possible so that participation is massive '', said the mayor. The initiative seeks to involve citizens in this task through fun and not, he stressed, through fines. This was also stated by Irene López, creative director of the Ideanto agency, which is responsible for the campaign: "always using humour, because we have found that it is easier for people to receive the message through humour than through recrimination". The information and the promotional video of this campaign is already available on the website https://cuidamijas.es/ through which the citizens of Mijas can learn more about the proposal launched by the local government

Municipal Ordinance

We remind you that since April, when the new ordinance on Public Roads came into force, it is also compulsory to dilute pet urine on the streets. Therefore, this campaign was started, as stated the councillor for Public Roads, Nicolás Cruz (PSOE), who said that "we are noticing that many users already carry their little bottle incorporated into the usual bag and leash, which makes us think that all this is working, the campaign and the effort we are making to raise awareness among everyone is working".  The Mijas Council also reminds us that they are making a great effort in terms of cleanliness in the town following the renewal and improvement of the contract for the cleaning and waste collection service, and requests the cooperation of all citizens to continue to make progress in terms of cleanliness throughout the municipality.

Until the 28th of November, you can take part in this campaign, which will make your pets and your neighbours proud of you.
