The San Valentín Square in Las Lagunas hosted a rally in support of Iranian women last Friday. The event, organised by the platform, was created to defend them after the murder in Iran of the young Mahsa Amini for not wearing the hijab properly. The protest, which also took place in other parts of the province, was supported by the Department of Equality. "The people are here to demand what we deserve as human beings, which is justice and freedom," said the Councillor for Equality and Diversity, Natalia Martínez (PSOE). She showed her support to the Platform in Support of Iranian Women. She also called for the need to demand "life" and "freedom" for all women.

Posters with messages such as 'Iran is a prison for women' and 'Woman, life, freedom' were raised along with the voices of the demonstrators in support of Iranian women. "A woman has no right to choose her clothes in my country, and she has no right to divorce. If she divorces, she has no right to have her child, no right to work, study or travel outside the country without her husband's permission. A woman is nothing," were the heartfelt words of the Iranian Women's Support Platform spokesperson, Jamile Marufi.

The event also took place in support of the Iranian women in Mijas who are not allowed to communicate with their families. It was a day of protest and gratitude. One of the demonstrators, Galin Shirzad, said: "This is support for us, our people, for our women because without support, they cannot achieve anything. Without the whole world's support, they cannot do anything. They are killing them. We who are free can speak as we want, but with so much danger in the street, they are being stopped and shot".
