After passing through Mijas Pueblo, the Tapas Route also arrives in Las Lagunas. This morning, the Mijas Town Councillor for Tourism, José Carlos Martín (Cs), presented this gastronomic activity on the patio of the Unión del Cante flamenco club, in the company of some of the participating establishments. "We are again boosting Las Lagunas' economy and gastronomic sector, which is important for the municipality. The Las Lagunas Tapas Route started on Saturday, 15th October, until 1st December, every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday", Martín informed.
Food lovers are welcome to go for lunch or dinner from 13:00 to 15:30 and from 19:30 to 23:30. " This initiative," added Martín, "is intended to provide a special and attractive offer at a time when tourism is reducing its presence in our town. It will become a focus that attracts visitors, neighbours from nearby towns and Mijeños themselves".
The initiative involves 12 establishments in the town which have prepared tapas, especially for this occasion. "We have even carried out a tasting with experts to ensure that the gastronomic proposals are of high quality and are up to the expectation of the people who decide to walk each milestone of this delicious path," said the Councillor.
According to the Tourism Department, in charge of organising this initiative in conjunction with the Mijas Federation of Associations, the aim is to boost the local economy and create another tourist attraction in this town. "We think it will be a great impulse for Las Lagunas," said the Federation's president, Charini Cortés. " It is an area that needs a great deal of promotion, and we think it will be a good initiative. We want to support the businesses and get neighbours and visitors to come together to create more unity in the neighbourhood".
Drink and tapa for 3 euros
Participants will enjoy for just 3 euros a tapa plus a drink. It includes a beer, wine, tinto de verano, water or a soft drink until 1st December. Provoletas, pork-spicy cheeks, Russian steaks or a simple but delicious potato omelette with caramelised onion, walnuts and cheese. These are some of the proposals to be tasted on this gastronomic route through Las Lagunas, which also has a fun incentive: the now famous 'Tapasport'. For those who complete it, there will be a gift (while stocks last), and enter a draw to win prizes worth up to 800 euros. "As in Mijas Pueblo, we have asked the large establishments in the municipality, such as hotels, golf courses, and large restaurants to contribute prizes. They have all contributed willingly, and there will be a big raffle at the end of the route," explained the Tourism Head of the Department, Juan Carlos Acevedo.
Some of the gastronomic proposals
At the presentation of the activity this morning, representatives of some of the participating establishments were present. They told us about their gastronomic proposals: "We will participate with a popular tapa, which is the potato salad. We have been using the same potato salad recipe for years, and many people think there is nothing extraordinary about it. This unique recipe has not disappointed us, and it is one of the most popular tapas in our establishment", said Fernando López, a partner in the 'Casa El Abuelo' restaurant.
Ana Rodríguez, who works in the bakery Las Torres, presented the tapa of the bakery: a Sacher tart: "After having something savoury, you always want to add a sweet touch, and in our establishment, we have presented a small Sacher tart, which is a chocolate sponge cake with a small layer of crunchy chocolate, with chocolate sponge cake, chocolate cream, and a final touch of Belgian chocolate with a raspberry".
He concluded, "this is an opportunity to have a good time, to enjoy a pleasant atmosphere and to get to know the Las Lagunas restaurants and bars. Enjoy some tasty dishes specially prepared for a " Tapas Route " that we are sure will delight all who decide to go on it".
