The students of the Municipal Basketball School of Mijas were present and had the opportunity to experience a first division game first hand

On Sunday, not only did Unicaja beat Gran Canaria, but Mijas also won at the Martín Carpena, as the name of the city appeared on the court's billboards and on the Unicaja's scoreboard in the first game of the season in the ACB league. He also presided over the 'fun zone', where different activities and games were present thanks to the campaign 'Our province plays', which gave the municipality the opportunity to promote itself in the Malaga team's debut.

Several government team members attended the meeting with the Mayor, Josele González (PSOE), at the lead. The Mayor stated, "for Mijas, the Unicaja basketball collaboration is important. Not only for this project 'Our province plays' but also for the step we have taken further by sponsoring the Unicaja women's basketball team that will be called Unicaja Mijas this season. We are proud to support women's sports and, in this case, Unicaja basketball. This alliance between the city of Mijas and the Unicaja team will bring great success for both parties".

Mijas has again signed up for Unicaja thanks to this initiative in which 11 localities will experience the thrill of live basketball while promoting themselves in the stadium. Our municipality also brought a bit of its culture, with the dances of Berni Gabriel's students from the Universidad Popular in the 'fun zone'. Also, one of the new disciplines incorporated into the sports programme, the fitflamc, and, of course, with the Municipal Basketball School students, who could experience a first division game live. "We have some small gifts for those who have come to see the basketball. Of course, we must highlight our main protagonists, our children from the schools, with the main objective of bringing the school students closer to Unicaja basketball as a reference team", said the Sports Councillor, Andrés Ruiz (Cs).

The kids had the chance to step on the court in break time. They were excited to be in this match . Yousef Elatribi told us he was confident Unicaja was going to win. His teammate Miguel Liebanas admitted, "I was already nervous on Friday, knowing I was coming here to see Unicaja on Sunday". For them, basketball and coming here means "a lot. It's my favourite sport. It's the best, more than football", added young José Manuel Navarrete.

Both on and off the court, there were many who had the opportunity to get to know a little more about Mijas. Some also joined fitflamc. From this week onwards, this activity is being practised in the Las Cañadas Pavilion on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 to 12:30. They start with classes packed. "It seems they are popular with 30 or 40 women, well, women and men because this is suitable for everyone," said the instructor of this discipline, Eva Sedeño.
