The First Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Infrastructures and Works of Mijas Town Hall, José Carlos Martín (Cs), reported that work has already begun on a new breakwater wall construction on Avenida Puerto de Los Gatos in Cortijo Colorado in La Cala de Mijas. This infrastructure will separate this important Cala de Mijas road from the stream that runs parallel to it.
Martin has detailed that this project "has a budget of more than 85,000 euros" and is essential for the area since " the new wall will prevent the risks that cause possible future flooding of the La Cala stream, such as landslides or falls". Thus, these works will offer "a substantial improvement in water containment". Something necessary since " recent rains caused the wall of the previous slope to slide. It caused the land in the area to move, affecting the pavement and part of the asphalt of the Avenida Puerto de Los Gatos," recalled the Mijas Councillor.
The works have an estimated completion time of three months so that by the end of the year, the road will have a new and improved breakwater wall to replace the previous one. Martín assured that the works "are not going to affect vehicle traffic too much for the area has two lanes in both directions", allowing access for residents and visitors.
As for the pavement that runs parallel to the La Cala stream, "it is true that it will be closed for the construction work period. However, we have the pavement opposite to walk along". Martín also apologised for any inconvenience these works may cause, although he insisted that " there will not be too much".
