The International Day against Trafficking in Women and Children was held on 23rd September

The Councillor for Equality and Diversity, Natalia Martínez (PSOE), presented the new campaign launched by the Town Hall to fight against trafficking. An initiative that was presented to coincide with the commemoration of the International Day against Trafficking in Women and Children and under the slogan 'I am not a body, I am a life' aimed to raise awareness about this reality of society. "We are launching various initiatives to raise awareness of the need to eradicate this social scourge, the sexual exploitation of women and children", says the Councillor. She recalled, "a violation of human rights that women and girls receive above all, and 99% of the victims of trafficking are precisely them, in what is a sexual exploitation that is linked to prostitution".

The Equality and Diversity focused its efforts on raising awareness among young people "the possible prostitution services, and the fact is that in Spain there are 45,000 sexually exploited women. A figure that we cannot allow and against which we must act", explained Martínez. In this sense, the local authority, in addition to launching this institutional campaign with various messages such as: 'it is not submission, it is fear'; 'they do not choose, they are prostituted'; 'do not buy sex, you are an accomplice' or 'your money, generates suffering', "especially focused on not producing the consumption of sex especially by men. We will also launch informative talk on sexual exploitation through the coeducation programme in the coming weeks. It aims at high school students and vocational training in the municipality", explained the Councillor.

All this, " to continue advancing towards a society of equality in which women are not objectified, and these sources of sexual exploitation are eliminated". In addition, from the area, remember that those women or people who are victims of trafficking can contact us. "For our part, we will always have our women's centres for their attention, and remembering that through the totally free 016 telephones, they can call to receive help and get out of this situation".
